2010 Regional Response Plan for Iraqi Refugees launched in Damascus (2010-01-18)
Under the patronage of the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the UN Resident Coordinator and UNHCR are hosting the official inter-agency launch of the 2010 Regional Response Plan for Iraqi Refugees.
Building on the achievements of the past four years, the 2010 Regional Response Plan for Iraqi Refugees (RRP) establishes a framework for collaboration on behalf of Iraqi refugees across 12 countries and brings together more than 50 humanitarian and development actors alike, including UN agencies, government counterparts, national and international NGOs and donors.
The high profile event features keynote addresses by Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Faisal al-Miqdad, Assistant High Commissioner for Refugees Ms Janet Lim and UN Resident Coordinator in Syria Dr Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed.
After a presentation of the regional response plan, a panel discussion will cover issues pertaining to health, education and refugee groups at risk. A Q&A session with the media will follow.
